The first week! @ 7:21 AM
Hello Hello!
The first week of classes! I hope that you all enjoyed your first first days at Barnard (despite the rain!). Tell me all about it, either here, on facebook, or shoot me an e-mail. Upload all your pictures! I can't wait to see the ones you all took at the wax museum! Now, there are a few things that I wanted to let everyone know about. The first week is really busy and all the clubs come out guns blazing to recruit new members. This is a great opportunity for you to find out about all the activities on campus and begin getting involved. So here are some of the events that you might be interested in this week!
1. Glamour Event = TONIGHT!! 6pm in the Diana Event Oval
They will have a panel of strong women leaders as well as honor the Glamour College Women of the Year. Not to mention, Loreal is co-sponsering and will be giving goodie bags. I'll be there tonight and hope to see you there!
2. The career fair is at 12pm on Friday in the James room. This will have all the departments on campus that are looking for student workers. This is a great place to get a job. I went my first year and got a job at the Theatre Department and I'm still working there!
3. The activities fair!
This is at 12pm on Friday and will take place on college walk and the steps and basically any open space there. All the clubs will be there to let you know about their mission and get you to join. This was an eye opening experience for me. I was shocked to see how many clubs there are. You will be able to find basically anything that you're looking for.
Alright! I hope that all of you get a chance to check out some of these events this week! Also, don't forget about Barnard babysitting and Bartending. Both are located in career development and are great ways to make some extra cash.
Lots of microscopium love!

Class of 2015: Welcome to Microscopium!! @ 2:17 PM
Welcome to Microscopium!
I just wanted to take some time and welcome you to the Microscopium constellation. My name is Gita Deo and I'm going to be your constellation leader this year. A little bit about myself: i'm a senior, majoring in Neuroscience, from New Brunswick NJ, I love dancing, eating, and theatre work. I'm so excited to meet you in a few weeks and hope that as the year progresses we will become friends and do lots of fun things together! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your first year at Barnard. I’m sure that a lot of you are super excited and maybe a bit nervous as well, so let me know if there’s anything that you want to talk about or I can do to help your transition to Barnard and NYC.
Now I just want to talk a bit about one of the events that we will be going to during your orientation called Barnard Loves NY on August 29. It's going to be to one of the major New York landmarks/ tourist destinations and will be a fun way to venture out into the city and get to know the rest of the women on your floor. Since we are all going to leave together I just want to suggest that you get a metrocard before that day so we don't have to wait for 90 people to get their metrocards. Barnard Loves NY is only going to be the first of many interesting and fun activities that we are going to be doing together! At the end of September get ready to wear out your dancing shoes on the lawn! Also, if you have any suggestions about events that you'd like to see happen or go to please let me know and i'll try my best to organize it!
Now, keeping in touch! Everyone in our constellation lives on the 6th floor of the quad, WOOT FLOOR 6!!! We also have a facebook group as well as this blog. The link for the group is below so please join the group! The group is a great way to meet and get to know the people that you are going to be living with during your first year at Barnard!
Finally, Constellation Microscopium, that’s a mouth full! So I now have a challenge for all of you. Come up with a nickname/mascot for our group so we will have something fun, awesome, and easy to say all year. Please put your recommendations on the facebook group or on the blog and when we meet for the first to time we’ll vote on the nickname – so come up with suggestions!!
Alright, now I know that this was a lot of information, so thanks for reading all the way to the end! I also just want to reiterate that I am here as a resource/friend/mentor/question answerer so please feel free to e-mail me or message me on facebook with any questions or concerns that you might have about your upcoming year at Barnard. I'm looking forward to meeting you and can't wait for all the awesome times we are going to have together!
Get pumped for Microscopium!!
